The most important thing to remember is DON'T WASTE YOUR STAT POINTS. If you don't plan to pay for the game, you can never redistribute them. So do your homework, ask around or look at guides(or the stats section or this site) to find out what point system is going to work best for you.
The Unit deployment screen(or F7) can auto select your units for you. But if you want to do it manually simply click and drag the unit onto the deployment circle, or just double click the units. You can rearrange them by click and dragging them to the desired location.
When in battle to select all your units hit backspace, or click and drag a box over them.
When in battle if you want your units to attack anything in it's path hit A then select your destination with your mouse.
